Belišće Paper Mill achieves Good Manufacturing Practice

DS Smith is pleased to confirm that Belišće Paper Mill, a leading Croatian paper producer, has received Confirmation of Conformance to the Confederation of European Paper Industries’ (CEPI) Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

Belišće Mill in Belišće, Croatia, was founded in 1960, and became part of DS Smith Paper in 2015, following the company’s acquisition of Duropack. After two years of work, the mill reached conditions to approach a GMP audit in November 2017. Following a review, Belišće received Confirmation of Conformance in April 2018. The Confirmation was assigned by Ecol Studio S.p.A., an independent consultancy based in Lucca, Italy.

GMP is a requirement for paper mills that produce food contact paper, and is described by CEPI as “an essential part of the production of food contact paper and board”. Now that Belišće has achieved GMP, all of the mill’s paper can be used in packaging that has contact with food – a significant step forward for DS Smith Paper Croatia.

Toni Bilić, General Manager of Belišće Mill, said:

I am glad to announce that, thanks to the hard work and dedication of all our teams, the mill has achieved Confirmation of Conformance to CEPI’s Good Manufacturing Practice – a great step forward for Belišće Mill.
